Thabo’s Tiny Treasure Trip

Thabo stands at the foot of Table Mountain, holding a tiny, tattered map he found under a bright protea bush. He feels very excited to start a big adventure to find a hidden treasure chest.

He puts on his favorite tan sun hat and tucks a shiny tin whistle into his pocket. The morning sun shines bright over the dusty trail that leads away from his small house.

Thabo waves his hand to stop a bright, colorful taxi that is traveling toward the town. The wheels go round and round as he hops inside and sits on the tough vinyl seat.

Near a tall tulip tree, Thabo meets Titus the tortoise, who is wearing a tiny red tie. Titus moves slowly but knows exactly which way the secret treasure trail goes.

The two friends take a break at a small wooden table to enjoy some tasty treats. They sip warm rooibos tea from tin mugs while listening to the birds chirp in the trees.

They follow the map through the tall, golden grass that tickles Thabo’s knees as they walk. Every time they take a step, they look for the next tiny sign marked on the paper.

At the edge of the woods, they find a secret tunnel hidden beneath the thick roots of a giant thorn tree. Thabo turns on his bright torch to see the way through the dark.

Deep inside the quiet tunnel, they discover a wooden chest filled with ten glittering trinkets and silver toys. The treasure sparkles beautifully in the light of Thabo’s torch.

Thabo is so happy that he pulls out his tin whistle and plays a cheerful, high tune. Titus the tortoise taps his toes to the rhythm of the music inside the cave.

They head back to the town just as the sun sets, sharing their treasures with all their friends. Everyone agrees that Thabo and Titus are the best treasure hunters in South Africa.
