In society, stigma is created when: people joke about mental health instead of taking it seriously social media shows unrealistic body ideals Because of stigma, Naomi feels ashamed and hides how she feels. She is scared people will judge her. This stops her from seeking help early, which makes her condition worse. If someone does not seek help, their mental and physical health can continue to decline. Page 7 – Support and Help Naomi’s friends notice something is wrong and ask if she is okay. This shows the importance of support networks. Support networks are important because they provide care, understanding, and help during difficult times. Naomi gets help from: her family her friends her teacher a counsellor She also learns about support organisations like: Beyond Blue Headspace Page 8 – Recovery and Positive Mental Health Naomi learns strategies to improve her mental health: talking about her feelings instead of hiding them limiting social media comparison staying connected with friends and family doing sport for enjoyment, not appearance seeking help early when she struggles Slowly, Naomi gets stronger. She starts eating normally again and returns to the sports she loves. Page 9 – Ending Naomi returns to her team. She still hears the shadow sometimes, but now she knows it is not real and how to challenge it. She understands that she is strong, valuable, and more than what she sees online.
