Cinderella: Part 1

Young Ella lived in a cozy cottage, filled with sunshine and laughter. Her kind father, a gentle widower, adored her more than anything in the world. They spent their days telling stories and sharing warm hugs, making every moment precious.

One day, her father announced he was to marry again, bringing a new family into their home. He introduced Ella to his new wife, a stern-faced widow, and her two daughters, Drizella and Anastasia, who peered at Ella with curious, yet unfriendly eyes.

The stepmother, with a sharp smile, quickly made it clear that things would be different. Drizella and Anastasia, with their loud voices and demanding ways, immediately began to assert their dominance. Ella felt a shiver of unease, sensing a change in the air.

Soon after the marriage, Ella's father had to leave for a distant work trip. He promised to return quickly, but weeks turned into months, and then years. Ella waited by the window every day, her heart aching for his familiar smile, but he never came back.

With her father gone, Ella's life transformed from joyful to laborious. Her stepmother stripped her of her comfortable clothes and gave her endless chores. Ella spent her days scrubbing floors, polishing silver, and cooking meals, treated no better than a servant.

The hearth became Ella's only refuge during cold evenings, where she'd sit amongst the dying embers. Her clothes became smudged with soot and her hands perpetually dusty. She often felt a dull ache from the ceaseless toil.

Observing her ash-covered appearance, the stepmother and stepsisters began to mock her. "Look at her, all covered in cinders!" Drizella would sneer, while Anastasia giggled. "We should call her Cinderella!" And so, the cruel nickname stuck.

Despite the harsh treatment, Ella never lost her gentle spirit. She found small joys in talking to the mice and birds that visited her in the kitchen. She often dreamed of a different life, even as she swept the cold stone floors.

One bright morning, a grand coach pulled up to their humble home, causing a stir. A dignified messenger, dressed in royal livery, stepped out. He carried an important-looking scroll, his presence radiating an air of excitement.

The messenger presented a beautifully sealed invitation to the stepmother, who snatched it with glee. It was an announcement for a magnificent Royal Ball at the palace! The stepsisters shrieked with delight, already dreaming of gowns and dancing. Ella watched from the shadows, a tiny spark of wonder in her eyes.
