MY IDEA: My story is going to explore the fear of school and how imagination can make everyday things seem scary or overwhelming. And how some young kids suffer the consequences of having wild imagination, such as missing out on forming connections with others or just simplify affecting their way of life. My children’s book “Monsters of Mondays” is a metaphor for the anxiety and dread that children often feel when it comes to going to school. As school can be a daunting and scary place for some kids. The core of my story is about Mac understanding his fears of disliking school as he views it as a monster. Changing the perspective of the story will be a big factor as in the story Mac will change his view of school, seeing that school is not in fact a monster. But it will start as Mac seeing school and the kids inside as monsters. Mac will also build resilience as he learns that school is not a monster and that he can go to school on Mondays without being in fear. The story is going to be made for kids starting school meaning the 5-8 age group, even though it is aimed at young kids it will still have a powerful message. Hopefully it will help parents with kids worried about starting school, new routines and being away from them. The story also encourages curiosity, courage and optimism. this is my book TITLE: Monsters of Monday Script: Page 1 Mac hated Mondays, Mondays meant school Mondays meant the fun of the weekend was done Page 2 In Mac’s mind school wasn’t a building, it was a MONSTER ! Page 3 The Monster of Mondays growled at him every morning “Get up Mac” But The Monster only ever growled after the weekend Page 4 At recess the Monsters roar was the noise of the playground. It was too loud, too busy, too much for Mac. Page 5 In class the Monsters claws were the pencils scratching on paper. The monster’s eyes were the clock, ticking, ticking, ticking. Page 6 At lunch Mac wanted to run away but then he felt something. A hand. Mac thought it was the Monster of Mondays Page 7 But it was a girl who asked “What’s wrong Mac” Mac told the girl about the monster hoping to save her from it as well. Page 8 But the girl spoke “Don’t be silly Mac there are no monsters, just have a look around Mac looked around Page 9 The Monsters growl… was just the kids on the playground. The Monsters claws… were only pencils writing stories. The Monsters eyes… were just the clock helping move time on. Page 10 Mac blinked. The Monster was gone. All that was left was a school. Just a school. And that girl holding his hand Page 11 “My name is Millie” said the girl “Want to be friends?” And for the first time ever Mac said “Yes please” Page 12 Mac still didn’t love Mondays... but he wasn’t afraid of the Monster anymore. Not when Millie was there to show him that it wasn’t a Monster at all. Page 13 Because sometimes Monsters aren’t Monsters at all sometimes, they are Mondays.
