The Story of the Little Red Hen Once upon a time, there was a little red hen who lived on a farm with her friends: a lazy dog, a sleepy cat, and a noisy duck. One day, the Little Red Hen found some grains of wheat on the ground. She wanted to plant them, so she asked her friends: "Who will help me plant this wheat?" "I’m tired," said the dog. "I’m Sleepy," said the cat. "I busy too," said the duck. "Then I will do it myself," said the Little Red Hen. And she did. The Wheat Grows Big and Tall, soon it was time to harvest the wheat. The Little Red Hen asked her friends, "Who will help me cut the wheat?" "I’m tired," said the dog. "I’m Sleepy," said the cat. "I busy too," said the duck. "Then I will do it myself," said the Little Red Hen. She cut the wheat all by herself. Next, she needed to take the wheat to the mill to grind it into flour. Once again, her friends all refused to help. So, she carried the heavy sack to the mill, ground it into fresh white flour, and walked all the way back alone. Now came the best part. The Little Red Hen was ready to bake a fresh loaf of bread using her flour. She asked, "Who will help me bake the bread?" "I’m tired," said the dog. "I’m Sleepy," said the cat. "I busy too," said the duck Then I will do it myself," she said. She mixed the dough, put it in the oven, and baked it until it was golden brown and smelled absolutely delicious. The wonderful aroma of fresh bread drifted across the entire farmyard. The dog, the cat, and the duck all came running into the kitchen, licking their lips. The Little Red Hen asked one final question: "Who will help me eat this bread?" "I will!" shouted the dog. "I will!" shouted the cat. "I will!" shouted the duck. The Little Red Hen shook her head and smiled. "Oh, no you won't! None of you helped me plant the seed, cut the wheat, or bake the bread. So, I am going to eat it myself."
