The Whispering Canopy The elders of the Jade Valley always said the forest at the edge of town was alive, but Kida never truly believed them until the afternoon the shadows began to dance. Kida wasn't one to sit still. While others were content weaving cloth or tending to the valley gardens, Kida preferred tracking the strange, neon-purple moss that only grew on the northern roots of the ancient ironwood trees. Armed with nothing but a leather notebook and a fierce sense of curiosity, Kida ventured deeper into the woods than usual. The air grew thick, smelling of rain and crushed mint. That’s when Kida saw it—a tiny, glowing ember floating just above the forest floor. It wasn't fire; it looked like a drop of liquid starlight.
