Penny's Sticky Situation

Penny sat in Mrs. Gable's second-grade class, daydreaming about flying unicorns. Mrs. Gable announced, "Today, we're going to glue the bottom of our paper plate to a popsicle stick to make a puppet."

Mrs. Gable continued, "Now, I want everyone to glue bottom to a chair!" Penny, always eager to follow instructions, took the command literally.

Penny carefully squeezed a generous amount of glue onto the bottom of her chair. She then sat down, giggling to herself, proud of following instructions so well.

When it was time for recess, Penny tried to stand up, but she was stuck! She tugged and pulled, but her pants were firmly glued to the chair.

Panic set in as Penny realized she couldn't move. Other students started to notice, pointing and whispering. Penny felt her cheeks turn bright red.

Mrs. Gable rushed over, her eyes widening in surprise. "Penny, what have you done?" she asked, trying to suppress a smile.

Penny explained that she had simply followed her instructions. Mrs. Gable gently explained that she meant for them to stay in their seats and get to work.

With the help of the janitor, Mr. Johnson, a bucket of warm, soapy water, and a lot of wiggling, Penny was finally freed from the chair.

Penny apologized to Mrs. Gable for the misunderstanding. Mrs. Gable chuckled, assuring Penny that it was an honest mistake and even commended her for her dedication to following directions.

Penny learned a valuable lesson about listening carefully and asking questions when unsure. From that day on, she always clarified instructions, and the 'glue incident' became a funny class story.
