The Red Group's Big Lesson

Leo and his friends in the Red Group burst into the afterschool room, tossing their backpacks and running around while Mr. Miller tries to get their attention. The room is filled with toys and art supplies, but the Red Group is too busy creating chaos to listen to the afternoon schedule.

When Mr. Miller announces it is time to tidy up the blocks before going to the playground, Leo and the Red Group continue building a giant tower. They laugh and ignore the whistle, while the other groups quickly put their toys away and head toward the door.

Because they didn't clean up on time, the Red Group watches through the window as the Blue and Green groups start a fun soccer match on the field. By the time Leo and his friends finish cleaning, the outdoor time is almost over, and they only get to walk around the track.

Later, the group is told to line up quietly and keep their hands to themselves for the walk to the cafeteria. Instead, the Red Group starts a game of tag in the hallway, bumping into walls and making loud echoing noises that disrupt the whole school.

As a result of their rowdy behavior in the hall, Mr. Miller explains they have lost their chance for the special Friday ice cream toppings. While the other kids enjoy sprinkles and chocolate sauce, the Red Group sits at their table with plain vanilla, feeling very disappointed.

During craft time, the instructions are clear: use only a small amount of glue and keep the glitter on the trays. Leo and his friends decide to have a glitter rain party instead, covering the floor, the tables, and even their hair in shiny blue sparkles.

While the rest of the afterschool program heads to the gym for a special magic show, the Red Group has to stay behind with vacuum cleaners and sponges. They scrub the sticky glue and sweep up every last bit of glitter, hearing the cheers and laughter of the other kids from down the hall.

Leo looks at his friends, seeing their sad faces and tired hands as they finish the cleaning. He realizes that by not listening, they have missed out on all the best parts of the day, and he suggests they try a different approach tomorrow.

The next day, when Mr. Miller gives the first instruction, the Red Group stops what they are doing immediately and listens with focused eyes. They move quickly to line up and follow every rule, surprising everyone with their helpful and calm behavior.

Because they followed directions perfectly, the Red Group is chosen to be the Leaders of the Day and gets to pick the final game. Leo smiles brightly as he realizes that listening and following rules actually leads to more fun and more rewards for everyone.
