Barnaby’s Brave New Words

Barnaby the little bunny lives in a lush green meadow and dreams of speaking English, but he is very shy. He worries that if he says a word wrong, the other animals might laugh at his mistakes.

One sunny morning, Barnaby hides behind a large, soft bush while watching the butterflies dance through the air. He whispers a quiet hello to himself, but his voice is so tiny that even he can barely hear it.

A cheerful little bird named Pip lands on a low branch right above Barnaby’s long, twitching ears. Pip chirps a bright greeting and asks Barnaby if he would like to learn some new words together.

Pip points his tiny wing toward the bright yellow circle glowing in the sky and says the word sun. Barnaby tries to copy him, but he accidentally says fun instead and blushes a deep shade of pink.

Pip just giggles softly and points to a tall oak tree with many green leaves, saying the word tree. Barnaby takes a deep breath and tries again, whispering tee while looking down at his small paws.

Barnaby feels a little sad and covers his face with his long ears, thinking he will never get the words right. He tells Pip that he is scared of making mistakes because they make him feel like he is failing.

Pip hops down to the grass and gently taps Barnaby’s nose, telling him that mistakes are just how we learn to grow. Even the fastest birds in the forest had to learn how to flap their wings properly, Pip chirps kindly.

They walk over to a beautiful red blossom, and Pip says the word flower very slowly and clearly. Barnaby listens carefully, opens his mouth wide, and says flower perfectly for the very first time.

Next, they go to the sparkling stream to take a refreshing drink, and Barnaby points to the clear liquid himself. Water, he says proudly, realizing that learning can be as exciting as a brand new game.

As the golden sun begins to set, Barnaby looks at Pip and says the word friend with a big, happy smile. He isn't afraid anymore because he knows that as long as he keeps trying, every word is a new adventure.
