Blake and the Bitty League Blast-Off!

Blake and his best friends joined a bitty league baseball team at the local baseball field, Hoback Park. Blake was close with his friends. The friends, Ricky, Sam and Shawn, did everything together. Blake and Shawn loved baseball, but Sam and Ricky disliked that sport. Blake and Shawn get dropped off to practice and meet up with their friends, who seemed bored. During practice, the coach tells the team to go on the field. Blake was on 3rd base and Shawn was on 2nd base The boys toss the ball back and forth. Practice was over and the coach says, “See everyone on friday night!” Ricky and Sam look at each other and rolled their eyes. Ricky says to Sam “I’m not ready for the game, I dont like the idea of baseball.” Sam replied, “ I dont like it either. .Blake and Shawn are so excited for the game.The 4 of them get a ride home from Blakes mom. Blakes mom says, “Are you guys excited?” Ricky shrugged and said, “I dont know.” Sam says “no.” Blake says “Yes but why aren’t you guys excited?” “We don’t like playing baseball. Just because you like it doesn’t mean we HAVE to LOVE it,” Sams says. Blake says, “Okay…. but do your best on Friday.” The boys agree they will. It is Thursday night. Ricky and Sam play Duos on Fortnite until midnight. RIckys says he doesn’t care about baseball but they are both going to try. Sam agrees and says, “Yeah, let’s do it for the team!” Blake and Shawn go to the park and practice with Blake’s older brother. They are at the ball park until 7 pm They are wore out. On Friday morning, they go to school. Sam and Ricky show up late, they over slept and didnt listen to their parents and didn’t make it on time. Blake and Shawn are worried that they won't do well on the field. After school they meet at the park for the game, the team is so pumped up for their first game. Blake, Ricky, Shawn and Sam turn to each other."Yeah, let’s do this!" Ricky and Sam answer as they grab their gloves. The game begins under the bright lights . Blake takes his spot at third base, his eyes stay on the batterEven though they stayed up late, Ricky and Sam hustle to the outfield, to keep their promise to the team. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the game is tied. A high ball toward left field. Ricky finds the ball, his eyes squinting against the light he trips over grass but makes the catch. He throws the ball to Shawn at second, who gets the runner out. The parents go wild. it's Blake's turn to bat, he smashes the ball, bringing Shawn home for the tie breaker. As the boys celebrate, Sam admits with a smile, "Okay, maybe winning is actually a little bit fun." Shawn ran from third base, sliding across home plate just as the catcher reached for the ball. "SAFE!" the umpire yelled.Even though they were exhausted from being up late from playing fornite., Ricky and Sam were proud "You guys did it!" Blake shouted.To celebrate, Blake’s mother drove them all to DQ for a blizzard. Sam said "I still think baseball is a lot of work... but that catch I made felt pretty awesome." Ricky added "And we’re definitely not staying up until midnight before the next game. I almost fell asleep in the dugout. "So, same time Monday for practice?"The four best friends clinked their spoons together. They weren't just a group of friends anymore; they were a team.
