Leo's Bathroom Adventures: A Guide to Respect and Safety

The Bathroom Is a Safe and Respectful Place A Social Story for Grade 1 Students Sometimes during the school day, I need to use the bathroom. The bathroom is an important place that helps keep my body healthy and comfortable. The bathroom is also a place where everyone deserves privacy, respect, and safety. When I Go to the Bathroom When I go to the bathroom, I walk quietly and calmly. I wait my turn if someone else is using the bathroom. I keep my hands, feet, and body safe while I am in the bathroom. Using the Toilet or Urinal The toilets and urinals are for using the bathroom only. I keep my feet on the floor. I do NOT climb, stand, or sit on top of toilets or urinals. Climbing can break the bathroom or hurt my body. Broken bathrooms can cause big problems for our school and friends. Taking Care of the Bathroom The pipes, sinks, toilets, and walls help the bathroom work the right way. I keep my hands and feet to myself. I do NOT kick pipes, hit walls, splash water, or play in the bathroom. When I take care of the bathroom, it stays safe and clean for everyone. Privacy Is Important The bathroom is a private place. I give others space when they are using the bathroom. I do NOT look under or over stalls. I do NOT open or lock doors when someone else is using them. Respecting privacy helps everyone feel safe and comfortable. Washing My Hands After using the bathroom, I: Turn on the water Use soap Scrub my hands Rinse Dry my hands Throw paper towels in the trash Clean hands help keep me and my friends healthy. When I Am Finished When I am done, I: ✔ Flush ✔ Check my space ✔ Walk back to class safely Making Good Choices Sometimes kids forget the rules. That is okay. I can always make a better choice next time.
