Beibei the little pig loved nothing more than splashing vibrant colors across his paper. With a paintbrush in his hoof and a smudge of blue on his snout, he felt like the happiest artist in the green meadow.
One morning, Beibei tried to draw a little yellow duck swimming in a pond. Instead of feathers and a beak, his drawing looked exactly like a big, fluffy white cloud floating in the middle of the water.
A little cow wandered over and peeked at the drawing, letting out a loud, booming laugh. That is not a duck, Beibei, that is just a big messy cloud, the cow teased while pointing at the paper.
Beibei’s ears drooped and his heart felt heavy as he looked down at his cloud-duck. He began to think that maybe he was not meant to be an artist after all and felt very discouraged.
Slowly, Beibei cleaned his brushes and tucked them away in his small wooden art box. He decided it was better to stop drawing forever than to keep making things that did not look right to others.
Mama Pig walked into the room and saw her son looking very glum near his art supplies. She sat down beside him on the soft rug and gently asked what was troubling her favorite little artist.
Mama told him about a famous artist named Leonardo da Vinci who spent a very long time just drawing eggs. He practiced drawing the same simple shape thousands of times before he could make them look perfect, she explained.
