Discover the power of empathy and innovation in this inspiring tale of human-centered design.
Vasco Almeida is a forward-thinking AI engineer passionate about building intelligent systems that bridge perception, reasoning, and action. With a strong background in Computer Vision, Agentic AI, and Generative AI, Vasco’s work explores how autonomous systems can interpret complex environments, make informed decisions, and interact seamlessly with humans. Currently pursuing a Master’s in Artificial Intelligence & Engineering Systems at Eindhoven University of Technology, Vasco specializes in the mobility track, focusing on visual SLAM, semantic scene understanding, and multimodal agent architectures. His academic foundation in Physics Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico has equipped him with deep analytical skills, a rigorous understanding of mathematics and mechanics, and a scientific approach to problem-solving—traits that define his engineering style. Throughout his journey, Vasco has combined theoretical depth with hands-on innovation. His experiences span start-ups, research labs, and major industry players, reflecting a rare versatility. At BMW, he contributed to the development of agentic multimodal assistants, designing orchestration frameworks and reasoning tools that connect large language models with real-world context and actuator control. At Ambee B.V., a Dutch robotics start-up, he built computer vision systems enabling hospital robots to perceive and navigate dynamic indoor environments. And at OutSystems, he advanced research in Vision-Language Models (VLMs) to automate front-end design, creating a 60,000-image annotated dataset used for training generative UI models. Beyond his professional work, Vasco has shown remarkable initiative in student engineering projects. With PSEM, he developed reinforcement learning agents to optimize racing lines and battery performance for electric cars competing in international endurance competitions. As part of Hackerschool, he honed his programming and design skills through multidisciplinary technology projects—an experience that fostered his collaborative mindset and entrepreneurial spirit. Vasco’s technical proficiency spans Python, C++, PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV, and ROS2, and he is deeply experienced with modern AI frameworks like LangChain, LangGraph, and Hugging Face, as well as simulation, multi-agent orchestration, and embedded deployment pipelines. He brings a holistic understanding of AI systems—from foundational models and generative reasoning to real-time robotic perception and multi-sensor fusion. But beyond the code and algorithms, Vasco’s values reflect curiosity, empathy, and purpose. His 15 years of volunteering with organizations such as the Food Bank Against Hunger, Re-Food, and the Portuguese Scouts demonstrate a long-standing commitment to community and sustainability. He also took part in reforestation efforts after the devastating Pedrógão Grande wildfires, embodying resilience and social responsibility. Make the story as a complement to my CV. iT SHOULD SHOW MY EXPERIENCE OVER THE YEARS: Outside of work, Vasco is an avid chess player, drawn to the blend of creativity and logic that mirrors his approach to AI. He also enjoys handball and weight training, which help him stay balanced and disciplined—traits he brings to both his professional and personal life. Driven by a passion for innovation and human-centered design, Vasco envisions a future where intelligent systems act as trusted collaborators—understanding context, assisting meaningfully, and augmenting human potential.
