The Bunny Leader A Story About Ethical Leadership Page 1 In a cozy burrow under the big oak tree, lived Mama Bunny and her three little ones. Hopper, Thumper, and quiet Little Fluff. Mama said, "Today I'll teach you something special. How to be a good leader for all the forest." Page 2 Hopper hopped high. "A leader is BOSS!" He puffed his chest. "Everyone does what I say!" Mama shook her soft head. "No, my dear. A boss says 'GO!' But a leader says 'LET'S GO!' A leader walks WITH others, not ahead of them." Page 3 Thumper stomped his foot. "A leader is STRONG! Whoever is biggest and loudest wins!" Mama nuzzled him gently. "Being loud is not leading. A leader lifts others up. Strength is kind. The strongest tree gives shade to everyone." Page 4 Little Fluff whispered, "Mama, what IS a leader?" Mama gathered her babies close and warm. "A leader sees what is broken and fixes it. A leader listens with ears and with heart. A leader helps the group be better together." Page 5 "Come," said Mama. "Let us practice. Our first job: Find a problem to solve." They hopped outside the burrow and looked. Near the blueberry bush, little Squeaky Mouse was crying. Her berry basket had a hole. All the berries fell. Page 6 Hopper said, "That's her problem, not ours." Mama whispered, "Leaders help anyway." Thumper said, "We are busy. Let's go." Mama whispered, "Leaders stop and notice." Page 7 Little Fluff hopped closer. "Are you okay?" Squeaky sniffled. "My basket is broken. I picked berries all morning. Now they are gone." Fluff looked at Mama. Mama smiled. "What do you think a leader should do?" Page 8 Fluff thought. "We can share our berries!" Hopper blinked. "But they are OUR berries." Fluff said softly, "But she has none." Thumper stomped. "Then who will help US tomorrow?" Fluff whispered, "Maybe... she will." Page 9 Hopper and Thumper looked at each other. Slowly, they pushed their berries forward. Fluff took Squeaky's broken basket. "I will help you fix this. My uncle weaves reeds." Squeaky's tears turned into a tiny smile. Page 10 That night, Mama Bunny gathered them close. "Today you learned what leaders do. Hopper, you learned leaders share. Thumper, you learned leaders pause. And Fluff, you learned leaders act with kindness." Page 11 "But Fluff did everything!" said Hopper. Mama laughed softly. "A leader does not need a crown. A leader does not need a trumpet. Sometimes the quietest bunny leads the best. Because leadership is not about being FIRST. It is about helping others be FOUND." Page 12 The next morning, someone knocked at the burrow. Squeaky Mouse stood with a full berry basket. "I picked these for YOU," she smiled. "Because you helped me. Now I help you." Hopper, Thumper, and Fluff understood. Good leaders grow more leaders.
