The Raven's Gift: A Tale of the Silver Sea

Kye stands by the Great Cedar, thanking the tree before gathering bark for weaving. His village is busy preparing for winter, living in harmony with the lush green forest and the salty sea.

Out on the misty water, a massive wooden structure with white wings appears like a ghost. Kye watches from his cedar canoe as the floating house drops a heavy anchor into the cold blue depths.

Men with pale skin and strange, hairy faces arrive on the shore in small boats. They carry heavy metal tools that shine in the sun, making sounds like clinking bells as they walk.

Kye's father brings out soft, thick sea otter pelts to show the visitors. In return, the strangers offer heavy iron pots and colorful blankets that feel different from the cedar bark capes.

Suddenly, a glowing blue Raven lands on a branch above Kye and whispers a secret warning. The Raven shows him a vision of the forest losing its balance if they take too much from the land.

Dark clouds roll in and a fierce Pacific storm tosses the giant ship against the sharp rocks. The strangers struggle to steer their heavy vessel, unaware of the hidden reefs beneath the waves.

Kye paddles his swift canoe into the crashing waves, signaling for the strangers to follow his path. He uses his knowledge of the tides and the secret currents to lead them to a calm, protected cove.

To thank him, the captain gives Kye a magic tube made of brass that makes far-away things look very close. Through the glass, Kye sees a massive wall of mud and trees starting to slide down the mountain toward his village.

Kye uses the strangers' loud iron bells to wake the village while the sailors help move heavy logs to divert the mud. Together, the two groups work as one to protect the homes and the sacred cedar grove.

As the sun sets, Kye looks at the new iron tools and his old cedar carvings, realizing that change has come. He promises the Great Raven that he will use these new gifts to keep the land strong for many years to come.
