Ana and the Time in Mount Abong By Charito C. Rendon Ana lives in a small Buhid community on Mount Abong. Every morning, when the rooster crows, they know it is morning and the sun is about to rise. They quickly get up and go to the Kaingin to gather food. When the sun is high in the sky, Ana knows it is noon and time to rest and have lunch under the shade of a tree. In the afternoon, as the shadows grow longer, they know it is time to finish their work in the fields and prepare dinner. But sometimes, when it rains or the sky is dark, Ana gets confused and does not know what time it is. She needs to ask her mother for help to know the correct time. Now, Ana has a small clock in her room. Even when it rains or the sky is dark, she knows the exact time. She can finish her tasks more easily and is no longer confused. Ana learned that in the past, the crowing of the rooster, the sun, and the shadows were important for telling time, but the clock helps make everyday life in Mount Abong more orderly and organized.
