The Bat and the Bird vs. the Snake Once upon a time, in a big green forest, lived two friends. One was a furry bat from the Mammalia family. He was nocturnal, which means he was awake at night. The other was a bright avian bird with a sharp beaked mouth. She was diurnal, which means she was awake in the day. Even though they were different, they cared about each other and enjoyed living in the same forest. One day, an evil snake with dentate jaws slithered into the forest. The snake wanted to eat the eggs of the oviparous birds and the babies of the viviparous bats. The bat and the bird knew they had to protect their families, so they made a clever plan. The bird, fast and clever, would call loudly in the daytime to distract the snake. The bat, quiet and sneaky, would swoop down at night to confuse the snake. Together, they used their differences as strengths. The bird’s daytime flight and the bat’s nighttime dives made the snake dizzy and weak. Finally, the snake gave up and slithered away. The forest was safe again. The animals learned that even though bats are troglophiles who like caves and birds are arboreal creatures who live in trees, they could work together. And because they were both omnivorous, they even shared a victory feast of fruit and insects. From that day on, the forest remembered their teamwork. The bat and the bird showed everyone that being different can make you stronger when you work together.
