Andy was walking home happy to see Buster, his golden-furred puppy. Buster wasn’t just a pet; he was his absolute best friend. But the moment Andy opened the backyard gate, he froze. The yard was completely empty, and the door was wide open. His mother met him with worried eyes and shared the bad news: during the heavy thunderstorm at noon, a terrifying clap of thunder had scared Buster so much that he jumped the fence and ran away. Andy immediately ran out into the street, where he bumped into his group of friends from school. With a trembling voice, he told them what had happened and begged for their help. He felt so scared for his pet… He could be anywhere! "Forget about him, Andy!" Mac said, shrugging his shoulders. "He’s just a dog. He`s not even that important. There are a lot of other dogs. Andy whispered to himself—a phrase his father always told him whenever things got tough. He searched for hours. He called out Buster's name until his throat hurt, pushing through the bushes and thick mud left behind by the storm. He started panicking: “What if he’s gone forever? “ With tears in his eyes and a small piece of hope, he kept searching. Two hours had passed when, from somewhere deep in the woods near the edge of the neighborhood, Andy heard a faint, weak bark. He ran as fast as his legs could carry him toward the river. There, his heart almost stopped. Buster fell into the river! The water was high and rushing wildly after the storm, and the poor pup was barely holding on to a slippery rock with his front paws.
