MICHAEL GONZALES Norwalk, CA — Southeast Los Angeles (Narrator, low and steady, as the city skyline fades in through smoke and streetlight) They say where you’re born writes the first page of your story. Mine was written in Southeast LA — concrete, sirens, and a childhood that ended before it should have. By the time most kids were still figuring out who they wanted to be, the streets had already decided who he’d have to become. Gang violence. Gunfire that didn’t wait for you to grow up. Walls that closed in before he’d even finished being a kid. But this isn’t a story about where a man comes from. It’s about what he refuses to stay. Every scar, every year lost, every mark inked into his skin — it’s a chapter, not the ending. He carved a new path out of what should’ve broken him: finish lines crossed muddy and bleeding, a Spartan medal earned the hard way, a life rebuilt one hard mile at a time.
