Gus's Big Little Ask

Gus the squirrel, with big, hopeful eyes, watched Lily the bunny drawing in her sketchbook under a big, sunny oak tree. His cheeks were puffed out, and his tail twitched with excitement. He thought Lily was the smartest, kindest bunny in the whole forest.

In his tiny treehouse, Gus carefully unwrapped a giant, swirly blueberry muffin, his favorite treat. He imagined sharing it with someone special, his heart fluttering like a butterfly. He really wanted to share this delicious masterpiece with Lily.

Gus gathered all his courage and tiptoed towards Lily, muffin in hand, but his knees turned to jelly. Just as he was about to say hello, he tripped over a root and tumbled behind a giggle-bush, peeking out shyly. He felt his cheeks burn bright red.

His best friend, Pip the robin, landed on his shoulder, tilting its head. "What's wrong, Gus?" chirped Pip, noticing Gus's slumped shoulders and hidden muffin. Gus whispered his secret: he wanted to ask Lily to share the muffin, but he was too nervous.

Pip puffed out its tiny chest. "Being brave means feeling scared and doing it anyway!" Pip chirped encouragingly, flapping its wings. "Just imagine how happy Lily would be to share your amazing muffin!" Gus felt a tiny spark of determination.

Taking a deep, wobbly breath, Gus squeezed the muffin a little tighter and decided he could do it. He pictured Lily's warm smile and knew he had to try. This time, he would walk tall and speak clearly.

Gus stepped out from behind the bush, his small paws making determined little thumps on the grass. Lily looked up from her drawing, her long ears perking curiously. Gus felt his heart doing a drum solo in his chest, but he kept going.

With a shaky voice, Gus held out the muffin. "H-hi, Lily!" he squeaked, his tail still twitching nervously. "I... I baked this blueberry muffin, and I was wondering... would you like to share it with me?" He closed his eyes, bracing for her answer.

Lily's face lit up with a wide, joyful smile, her whiskers wiggling. "Oh, Gus, that's so sweet of you!" she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling. "I would absolutely love to share your delicious muffin!" Gus's heart soared with relief and happiness.

Gus and Lily sat together under the oak tree, happily munching on the giant blueberry muffin, crumbs dusting their noses. They laughed and chatted, sharing stories and even a little drawing. Gus realized that being brave was definitely worth it, especially when it led to such a sweet moment.
