Autumn had arrived. Leaves crunched beneath Mia's boots. Pumpkins sat on every porch, and friendly ghosts waved in the breeze. It was Halloween... and Mia couldn't wait to celebrate. Mia loved Halloween. She loved carving pumpkins. She loved costumes. She loved candy. But as she carved her pumpkin, she wondered, "Why do we celebrate Halloween?" The wind grew still. The leaves stopped dancing. Then... the pumpkin began to glow. Tiny golden sparkles floated into the air. Mia gasped. "My pumpkin moved!" The pumpkin stretched its tiny vine arms. It blinked. Then smiled. "Hello!" it said. "My name is Pip." "You can talk?" Mia whispered. "Only when someone arks the right question," Pip replied. "You asked why we celebrate Halloween," said Pip. "I know the answer." "But stories like this..." …..are best experienced." Golden leaves began to swirl. "Come with me!" WHOOSH! The leaves spun faster and faster. The moon stretched into a ribbon of light. They landed softly on green grass. There were no cars. No streetlights. Only tiny cottages and fields ready for harvest. "Where are we?" Mia asked. "Over two thousand years ago," Pip smiled. "The people here are called the Celts," Pip explained. "They celebrate a festival called Samhain." "It marks the end of the harvest..." '..and the beginning of winter." As night fell, everyone gathered around a giant bonfire. Families sang songs and shared stories. "The fire brought warmth and hope," Pip said. Mia smiled. "It feels magical." "It is," said Pip.
