-SCENE 1- WEEKEND DREAMERS A cozy kitchen/workshop. Ingredients everywhere. A clock hangs on the wall. YOUNG WENDY: is already working. YOUNG WILLIE:: has a mixing bowl on his head. YOUNG WENDY: What if chocolate didn’t have to be Sweet? What if it were brave? YOUNG WILLIE:: Brave chocolate? Who’d want to eat brave Chocolate, WENDY:? YOUNG WENDY: What if we mix the marshmallows and raspberries into the chocolate? YOUNG WILLIE:: That sounds interesting, but what if the marshmallows came to life and swallowed the raspberries? The bowl slides over his eyes. He bumps into the table. Audience laughs. YOUNG WENDY: Then problem solved. That’s what we want – a raspberry filling inside the marshmallow inside the chocolate. YOUNG WILLIE:: Ok, I guess you’re right! YOUNG WENDY: (getting excited) And what if all the nuts for the candies were opened by tiny little squirrels!? YOUNG WILLIE:: Squirrels? Aren’t they rodents? YOUNG WENDY: (ignoring him) The squirrels would open the nuts wit their tiny paws and big teeth YOUNG WILLIE:: Well, that doesn’t sound quite sanitary. I mean who would want to eat a piece of candy knowing a squirrel had something to do with it?! YOUNG WENDY: (ignoring him) And the squirrels would live in the factory. YOUNG WILLIE:: What factory? YOUNG WENDY: The chocolate factory and they would live in a room called the nut room. YOUNG WILLIE:: Well, they wouldn’t be the only ones in the nut room. (laughs) YOUNG WENDY: Now WILLIE::, let’s hurry. We only have two hours before father returns. YOUNG WILLIE:: Two whole hours? That is forever! YOUNG WENDY: Not when you are inventing. YOUNG WILLIE:: So. what are we inventing again today?
